Nova Scotia is the most populous of the 4 Atlantic provinces of Canada but still only has less than a million inhabitants most of whom historically were involved with the sea be it being fisherman or shipbuilding - more than a few of the great British Naval ships used Nova Scotia timber and expertise.
These days with the demise of cod, people have turned to tourism and that is only to the visitors benefit as there are now a plethora of small hotels and inns for us to choose from and plenty of whale watching, golf, tidal bore rafting and other holiday activities. Geographically, Nova Scotia consists of Cape Breton Island in the north which is the most northerly end of the Appalachian Chain and a peninsula of largely flat terrain.
Direct flights to Halifax with Air Canada and several low cost airlines only take 6 hours from London, making Nova Scotia an ideal holiday destination whether you have 3 days or 3 weeks. A short break to Halifax or a longer fly drive holiday should certainly be on your holiday list!
